Post & Data Loss

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

During a routine upgrade, some data and recent posts were lost on this blog and on sister sites.  This is quite a blow and all possible will be done to rectify the situation and hopefully prevent this from occuring in the future.

I’m loving my new address labels from Little Lamb Design!

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

RE-POST REVIEW:

My dh and I have lived in 8 different homes in the 9 years we have been married. I haven't had the same address long enough to justify spending money on address labels. Now in our 8th home we have decided to settle down; we bought this house (it used to be a church) and we are making it ours. As far as I know, we'll be here a good long time, so I jumped at the opportunity to review address labels from Little Lamb Design.

I chose this design.

I got to pick the colors and the large letter (of course, so that it matched my name). I am very very pleased. The labels stick well; they are clear and just the right size, even for larger envelopes where some address labels tend to get lost. Not these ones from Little Lamb Design. The H on mine stands out well!

From their welcome page:

Welcome to Little Lamb Design and thank you for stopping by! Here you will find a huge selection of personalized stationery products. We also offer custom studio and on-location photography.

What makes Little Lamb Design unique is that we have the ability to customize anything on this site to suit your needs and preferences. Whether you are throwing a huge birthday bash, or just need a unique way to label your stuff, we have or can create the perfect design for you. Please be sure to check back often as we are continuously updating the site with new and exciting products and designs.

The selection is incredible, almost too many to choose. I love that you can make each item unique though. They customize everything. I am very very pleased with this company. They are prompt, fun and friendly. The work is well done.

Thank you, Little Lamb Design, for such a great product!

Harper Collins takes you Back to School with two Great Books

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009
Two of the newest books from Hapers Collins publishers are Amelia Bedelia's First Day of School and Marley Goes to School. Both of these books focus on going to school and are great books for the beginning of the school year.

My girls really liked the Amelia Bedelia's First Day of School by Hermin Parish. They enjoyed the different antics that Amelia did in the book. I, as an adult reading the book, liked reading how she took everything so literal. Every page in the book gave something for both the adult and the kid to enjoy. The illistrations in the book were great as well. My kids liked looking at the pictures while I read the book. If you are a Amelia Bedelia fan, this book will not dissapoint.

Marley Goes to School by John Grogan was an exceptional book as well. I think this has become a new favorite for our family. The illisturations on this book were done well. The storyline was fun and kept the attention of even the youngest of my children. As adults, both my husband and I have enjoyed reading this to our kids. It's one of those books you don't grumble when the kids ask if you can read it for the 10th night in a row. If your looking for a new good book to buy your child, I would recommend this one. It's a great back to school book as well. If we weren't homeschooling this year, it would be a book I would take into school as a suggestion for the teacher.

Both of these books have such great quality that I would give them as gifts. The stories were great and the quality of the pictures were fantastic as well. Any Haper Collins books that I've had the pleasure of reviewing have not failed us in those categories.

Fruit 2o Water

Monday, August 24th, 2009
Fruit2O_Group_VWhen I was given the oppertunity to review the water I jumped at the chance. The Fruit 2o water came in a really cute package. Thy were packaged in the container or bag you would get if you bought that kind of fruit at the grocery store. I am not a big water fan, actually about the only time I drink water is when I get to that dehdrated stage. I try and try to drink it but just cant cause of the taste. But with this water I didnt have a problem drinking this because of the flavors. Some of the flavors are not quite what I liked but my children drank the ones I didnt like.My favorite flavor was the cirtus one. Fruit 2o Water has two serving's of fruit in each water bottle. There also is no sugar, Carbs and Calories. Making this water so much better for me then Pop or soda. So If you really like flavored water or are needing to try to drink more water we have a contest going on and the winner gets a Case of water to try in there favorite flavor. Click here.

Little Lambs Design

Monday, August 24th, 2009
Little Lamb Design Web LogoI recieved from Little Lambs Design two adorable half sheet notepad's with magnet's on the back to attach to the fridge. The Design I picked out was The Family Faces design. It has a face for each member of the family. It is really adorable. The only thing I did not like was that the card board backing of the one notepad fell off right as I took it out of the package. I am assuming that was a fluke with shipping because the second notepad has had no problems. It is nice thick paper and I can't wait till I can use it to send note's to school. We have a contest for a $50.00 gift certificate to Little lambs design going on till 8/31/09 So Click here to enter!

Water or Fruit?

Thursday, August 20th, 2009
I was presented with this review a little while back, and said okay I'll review it. It's water, I like water. It tastes like fruit, I like fruit. I knew that it was a package of different flavors, but really I was wondering what all the hype was about. I've seen it in the stores, but normally I just grab a case of water or a water filter for my pitcher. I had been considering one of those water filters with "fruit shots" so I decided to see if that would be worth it by trying Fruit2o.

Fruit2O_Group_V

When the mail lady showed up, she wasn't at my house. The package didn't fit into my obscenely gigantic rural mailbox. It was a big box. So as is the custom here, don't leave the package on the table beside the door, drive to the nearest neighbor (1/4 mile away) and see if they are at home. If they are not home, leave it on the ground by their door.

So I ran by my neighbor's house to drop off the kids, or pick them up or something. I don't really remember. (Hey! This summer has been nothing but GO! GO! Go!) I was told that there was a package waiting on me, so I was thrilled. I love packages! I don't love mail, that usually includes bills, and I don't like those.

I promptly ran back to my van and before I could get home, I'd opened the box. There it was, in all its glory! Fuit2o. My first thought was that the packaging was ingenious! I wish that I had pictures, but somehow they are lost. I took a LOT of pictures of this package, and poof! There was a produce bag, like oranges come in, with two bottles of water. There was a plastic container, like a quart of strawberries would be sold, with two bottles (falling out and crushing, but it was a great idea if not a great shipping idea) inside. Then there was a plastic vegetable bag, like you'd tear off and put an onion inside, with one bottle of water inside and tied/taped closed. There was also a list pad, you know like the ones you write a grocery list. That's a real handy little sucker!

Since I had been in and out, on vacation and on the Go! Go! Go! I decided to take my package with me to Tuscaloosa, AL when I spent the most of 2 weeks in a hotel. I promptly put my bottles in the fridge (after painstakingly taking a ton of pictures that have now gone traveling into space) so that when I wanted something to drink, they were ready to go.

I told Scott about them, and that he could take a bottle or two to work with him. He  was pretty happy about that, and happily grabbed the bottle of Blueberry Pomegranate, he has been drinking that flavor faithfully since its release. I asked if he wanted to take any of the others, and he declined.

So I faithfully opened the Citrus.

Here is the good stuff about Fruit2o
  • The nutrients of 2 servings of fruit in every bottle
  • 1 gram of fiber
  • flavor....um wait a minute

Well I did take a sip of the citrus flavor, spat into the sink (YUCK!) and offered Scott a sip. He thought it tasted like grapefruit and said to never ask him to do that again. My sentiments exactly.

After this experience, it took a few days to get my courage up to try another flavor. I decided on the strawberry kiwi. I thought this was a safe bet, because normally anything of this flavor combo is my pick. This flavor didn't rock the gag reflex, but I only drank about a quarter of the bottle before throwing it out, and that took all day long.

One evening we were going downstairs to visit with some friends, and I grabbed the cherry acai flavor. We were only about 3 doors from the elevator. I opened it, and took a sip. Scott took a sip. We both agreed that it was cough syrup hiding in water. It was promptly closed and thrown into the trash beside the elevator.

I have yet to try the other flavors, and I'm not really sure what happened to them, but mind you I won't be buying these for myself. Scott loves the Blueberry Pomegranate, but rarely picks one up while we are out.

While I prefer plain filtered tap water, I think I'm finished trying to drink watered down fruit juice. But if I did want to kick it up a notch, I'd add my own fruit to my water. It has got to be better than this stuff.

Fruit2O_GroupHorizontal

If you like this stuff, and a lot of people do, We are hosting a Fruit2o giveaway where you can choose your flavor. In my house we'd pick the Blueberry Pomegranate of course.

The good things about this review from my end: I got a nice reusable produce bag, a note pad, and learned to spit like a man!

SYLVAN DELL PUBLISHING

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

JULY 29, 2009

MOVE OVER KINDLE

Sylvan Dell’s innovative eBook format promises to improve reading speeds, comprehension, and language learning skills

MT PLEASANT, SC – Sylvan Dell Publishing goes LIVE this week with its next generation eBook, proving the company represents “so much more than a picture book;” it represents a full-fledged campaign for literacy in America.

From Sylvan Dell publisher and co-founder Lee German: “These are the most technologically advanced eBooks in the world today, featuring Auto-Flip, Auto-Read, and Selectable Language. There is nothing even close to this on the market. Amazon/Kindle and Barnes & Noble eBooks are not even in the same category. I encourage parents and teachers to take a test-drive and see for themselves. Let the children play with these for a few weeks, and you’ll be amazed at their excitement and improved reading performance. For children wanting to learn a foreign language or ESOL families learning English, these are phenomenal tools.”

Below is a link to a 90-day trial of all 45 Sylvan Dell eBooks: http://www.sylvandellpublishing.com/ebooktrials.php?e=MSBL9J

Code expiration date: 10/31/2009 For guided directions: http://www.sylvandellpublishing.com/documents/eBookOperatingInstructions.pdf

Sylvan Dell eBooks will rock your world

“Whether in Auto-Flip or Manual Mode, switch back and forth between English and Spanish text and audio (more language choices on the way) and remain on the same page,” said German. “With the addition of Auto-Flip and Auto-Read features, our Sylvan Dell eBooks are powerful literacy and language learning tools to complement our mission of teaching ‘Science and Math Through Literature.’”

Sylvan Dell is no newcomer to literacy education and no stranger to technological advances. Since the company’s founding in 2004, co-founders Lee and Donna German have been ahead of the picture book publishing curve. Last year, Sylvan Dell awarded free eBook site licenses to over 2600 elementary and Title I/III schools nationwide through their School Resource Grant Program.

What’s next? According to German, “We want moms, dads, and grandparents to be able to record a reading of our books and add that audio to the language selection list. This is especially important for military families with a parent overseas. We are also developing an iPhone, iPod, and iPod touch application so that our eBooks will be available on handhelds and an online data capture system to allow teachers to track student reading and quiz performance.”

Sylvan Dell eBooks are available on the company website, http://SylvanDellPublishing.com, as are an array of free educational resources, which include Teaching Activities and Interactive Math and Reading Comprehension Quizzes.
