Mama3d2

If Mama Don’t Laugh, It Ain’t Funny by Lucy Adams takes a humorous look at the everyday life of Mom.  The stories are hers, but if you’ve been a mom for more than five minutes, there’s no doubt you can relate!

Some of the stories just might fall into the “if I didn’t laugh, I’d cry” category, and most are stories that if it did happen to you, you could only laugh about it after the fact. Well after the fact!   There are topical chapters and each chapter has a selection of two page stories.  There’s no continual storyline, so you can pick it up, flip it open to any page, get a quick chuckle (great when you could really use a pick me up), and move about your day.

I enjoyed If Mama Don’t Laugh, It Ain’t Funny and I have a mild suspicion you might as well.

Thanks, Lucy, for sending me this great book – I needed the laughs!

If Mama Don’t Laugh, It Ain’t Funny

A copy of this humorous book was provided to me for review. Lucy Adams is a hoot. Adams is a syndicated humor columnist, web blog host and second grade teacher. She shares stories of her life and motherhood with us with such an entertaining flair. She turns the everyday humdrum of being a mom into laughter and joy. I am the mother of six children so I could definitely sympathize with many, many of her "experiences". I am certain though that non-moms would also appreciate her humor as well.

Here is a snippet from her story about burying their beloved pet Jimmy (the watermelon), "My spouse said a few words over the dissected: "Here rests Jimmy, red and green, put to pasture by the Queen of Mean. [I shot eye darts at him] Poor Jimmy, a life cut quick, by a woman who needed a Ginsu fix. [I glared] Okay. Sorry. Sorry," he chuckled. "Jimmy, we hate that you fell to pieces man."

Adams’ southern charm also comes out in "A Pig that Good," "Difficult Decisions" and "Oh, the Delirium of Summer." She also shares about marriage in "Rambling My Way to Purgatory." Short story after story will have you laughing...at least this mama was laughing.

If Momma don’t laugh,It ain’t funny

if mamaI walked into the room to find my Husband of nine year's reading a book the only other time I can remember him reading something was the car manual to our car. But Shane was reading If Mama Don't Laugh,It Ain't Funny and laughing hysterically. He was reading I smell trouble. He made me stop what I was doing and read it . I have started reading my favorite part's to him when he goes out side to smoke. The kids come up to us and ask what's so funny.  My favorite  was Dr.Seuss Duets, we laughed and laughed. It reminded us so much of two of our girls.

If you are stressed about the kid's not doing what you ask or the stunt they pulled that day or you just need a laugh and a reminder to see the laughter in all situations, I suggest you take a minute and read one Of Lucy Adam's little stories. It will brighten your day. It sure did mine.

Mama Laughed, so it must be funny

Monday, July 13th, 2009
Every Mom should keep a copy of If Mama Don't Laugh It Ain't Funny by Lucy Adams on hand. I received this on a day that I was at the end of my rope. The first story in Chapter 1 had me laughing so hard, I could not wait to read on. It told about how its hard to look cool in a minivan. Although I admit I love my van and do not try to look cool in it, the rest of the story I totally could relate to and had me busting my gut (you'll have to read the story to learn what happened).

I love reading, but I find I do not get to as often as I'd like. Instead of reading books, I usually resort to magazines because it does not matter if I have to put it down. Most stories are short enough that I can read them in one sitting. The beauty of this book is that I feel like I can read out of order. I sometimes pick it up and start anywhere in the book and I did not feel like I was lost. Although I will admit not every story had me laughing so hard I was going to pee my pants, enough of them did that it would make it worth purchasing.

So, if your a mom (or anyone else) that needs a good laugh, I recommend this book. It gave me the little lift I needed in my day and gives me the ability to laugh at the crazy things that happen in the course of our day. So check out the book If Mama Don't Laugh It Ain't Funny and also check out Lucy's Blog

All Moms Need To Laugh, Just A Little.

Sunday, July 12th, 2009
Oh my goodness! I laughed and laughed and laughed. My dh had to keep turning up the television to hear his program over my laughing right out loud! This author is HILARIOUS! She makes real life incidents so extremely funny! She is a mom of four normally rambunctious children. (They sound a lot like mine, and she, sounds a little like me.) Oh, the book? I guess that would be nice to know, eh?

If Mama Dont Laugh, It Aint Funny

I have been learning about laughing at myself and at the things my kids do. Spilled milk. Dripping water. Poop in the bathtub. An extra 3 loads of laundry coming from their rooms just when I'd caught up. These things used to make me so very angry. And I was no fun to live with.

Lucy Adams (and other authors) is teaching me to laugh. Laughing makes life more fun, makes the children more relaxed, makes Mama a little more fun to be around. My dh has been trying to teach me this too. And I am so very thankful.

Some of my favorite stories include: Tough Love (because it sounds free-range), A Day At The Park (because I get those looks), Burning The Midnight Oil (because that was me last night!) and A Pig That Good (because it's just silly).

The book is a collection of stories written by Lucy Adams who is a very busy person from the description on the back of the book.

Lucy Adams is a syndicated humor columnist, wife, and mother of four children. She also writes a popular blog and teaches second grade. In her spare time, she breathes and washes clothes. Learn more about Lucy at http://www.ifmama.com
