By George, this is a great book! (heehee) Intriguing. Fascinating. Very well done. Sometimes I have trouble following books that bounce back and forth between the past and the present but these stories were incredibly well integrated.

The story is a novel that offers another aspect, another side of war that we don't think about very often; at least I don't. Once in a while I'll see that episode of M.A.S.H. that portrays the morale boosting services provided by entertainers and actors. This book gives a lighthearted view while keeping the seriousness of war intact.

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading about the young boy who learns his family history through journals written by his grandfather, who teaches himself ventriloquism, who lives in a different world than I've ever experienced. I enjoyed reading about the same boy's grandfather and his "tricks", who was a pioneer in his field.

I don't want to spoil the twist at the end, because I want you to be as surprised as I was! I was not even expecting that! I gobbled up the last 20 pages, while the rest of the book took me a while to get through, mostly due to the life of a mom of 5. Those last few pages put life on hold! LOL.

Not too deep. Not too involved, but enough to keep you interested and learning. Certainly not fluff. Thanks, for a great read!
