By Kevin Henkes
With old timey painting and subtle but vivid colors, this book is darling! Old Bear sleeps all snug in his cave for the winter. Old Bear dreams about being a cub again. He dreams of Spring. Then he dreams of summer and raining blueberries! He dreams of the colors of autumn. He dreams of the chill of winter. When he finally wakes up he has to find out if he is still dreaming.
This book opens the opportunity to talk about the seasons. How does Old Bear feel, see and smell in the fall? The winter? The spring or summer? Which season do you like best?
I would suggest this book for early to intermediate readers. The repetitive words would be a terrific learning tool. Old Bear would be a great addition to the library of a first or second grader.
